Make a Difference for a Family: Be an ESL Tutor!
About the Program
Charlotte Bilingual Preschool (CltBP) leverages the important role families play in their children’s long-term success by empowering them with tools to support and advocate for their children. As part of our Family Program, we offer two levels of English as a Second Language (ESL) classes to our families and our greater community. English language skills enable families to better engage in both the opportunities Charlotte has to offer and their children’s education!
ESL 1 is taught primarily in Spanish, and ESL 2 is taught primarily in English. We use the curriculum Gramática del Inglés: Paso a Paso written by Elizabeth Weal, which is tailored to Spanish speakers. Each class meets once a week for 2.5 hours.
Tutoring with CltBP
Proficiency in Spanish is needed to tutor ESL 1 students. For ESL 2 students, Spanish proficiency is preferred but not required. Tutors will meet with 1-5 students at a time. Tutors must be able to commit to at least one hour of tutoring at a time. There is no minimum or maximum number of hours, but we hope that you can tutor consistently and build a relationship with your student(s)! Tutoring is offered during the following times:
ESL 1 – Wednesdays
ESL 2 – Tuesdays
Get started as an ESL tutor by joining us at an orientation:
- January 31, 11:00am-12:00pm
- January 31, 4:00pm-5:00pm
- March 21, 11:00am-12:00pm
- March 21, 4:00pm-5:00pm
RSVP to an orientation date or learn more by contacting Ms. Amy Schuman at Amy@bilingualpreschool.org. Thank you for your interest – your time as a tutor will help families reach their goal of reading, speaking, and writing in English, helping them build a bright future for themselves and their children.
